Visit to Petra, Jordan
The south of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is famous for its rock-cut architecture and ancient aqueduct system. In the past it was called "Sela", or "Pink City" due to the colors of its twisted rocks.
Petra was founded around 312 BC as the capital of the Nabataean kingdom. Nowerdays it is a famous archaeological site in the southwestern desert of Jordan. It contains tombs and temples, but perhaps its most famous structure is the 45m-high Al Khazneh. This temple is known as The Treasury, and has an ornate, Greek-style facade, carved into pink sandstone cliffs. This wondrous city is only accessible via a narrow canyon, called Al Siq.
